Fitter (1st Shift)
KP Staffing is now hiring Fitters in Rhome, Texas!
Job Summary
The fitter will lay out, fabricate, fit, and join steel components used in structural applications. Working directly from blueprints and specifications, this role is responsible for accurate fit-up and preparing components for welds that meet required quality and ultrasonic inspection standards.
Pay
$21.00 – $27.00 per hour
Retention Bonus
Eligible new hires may earn up to $5,000 through a retention bonus program, subject to program requirements.
Shift
Monday – Friday
5:00 A.M. – 3:30 P.M.
Saturdays as needed
Duties
- Lay out, position, fit, and join steel components according to blueprints and specifications
- Prepare structural components for welding
- Lay out base plates, flange plates, brackets, ground sleeves, and other attached parts
- Verify measurements using tape measures, squares, levels, and templates
- Operate overhead and jib cranes, hoists, grinders, cutting torches, and related fabrication tools
- Inspect fit-up quality and correct issues as needed
- Maintain production and quality standards
- Follow safety procedures and maintain an organized work area
- Cross-train and support additional fabrication tasks as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent education and experience
- Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16 inch
- Basic shop math skills, including fractions, decimals, and geometry
- Ability to read blueprints and welding symbols
- Must pass MICA’s New-Hire Fitter Assessment
- 1+ year of fitting/fabrication experience in structural steel, tubular products, ship fitting, pipe fitting, or a comparable metal trade for direct-hire fitter level
- Overhead/jib crane experience or ability to certify
- Ability to work overtime and Saturdays as needed
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with seasonal temperature extremes
