KP Staffing is now hiring a Tooling Technician for a company that manufactures plastic injection molding in Fort Worth, Texas!
Job Summary
The tooling technician will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on injection molds and production tooling to support safe, reliable, and production-ready manufacturing operations. This role focuses on inspection, troubleshooting, repair, documentation, and spare parts management to improve tooling reliability and minimize downtime.
Pay
$27 – $34 per hour
Shift
1st shift: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday – Friday
Duties
Perform routine preventive maintenance on injection molds and production tooling in accordance with established maintenance schedules and procedures
Inspect molds for wear, damage, contamination, corrosion, and other conditions that may impact tooling performance or product quality
Disassemble, clean, inspect, service, and reassemble injection molds and tooling components as required
Perform troubleshooting and corrective repairs on injection molding tooling, including replacement or repair of worn and damaged components
Service mold components including ejector systems, slides, lifters, guide pins and bushings, cooling circuits, hydraulic components, pneumatic components, hot runner systems, and other mold mechanisms
Identify recurring tooling failures or abnormal wear conditions and communicate findings to production, process, maintenance, engineering, and management as appropriate
Support troubleshooting of production issues when tooling condition or performance is suspected as a contributing factor
Complete assigned preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance work orders in the CMMS system
Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs performed, components replaced, observations, and tooling conditions in the CMMS system
Maintain accurate tooling maintenance history and ensure completed work orders are closed in a timely manner
Identify and maintain appropriate spare parts inventories for molds and tooling
Monitor spare parts usage and inventory levels and initiate replenishment requests as required
Assist in establishing minimum and maximum inventory levels for critical tooling spare parts and components
Ensure tooling spare parts are properly identified, organized, stored, and maintained
Maintain mold maintenance areas, tooling workspaces, tools, and equipment in a clean, organized, and production-ready condition
Follow established procedures for mold handling, storage, preservation, and preparation for production
Participate in continuous improvement activities focused on tooling reliability, preventive maintenance effectiveness, and reduction of tooling-related production downtime
Assist in developing and improving preventive maintenance procedures, inspection standards, checklists, and tooling maintenance documentation
Coordinate with external tool shops and service providers when tool repairs or specialized services are required
Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable lockout/tagout requirements when performing maintenance and repair activities
Perform other tooling and maintenance-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Previous experience working with injection molds, tooling, mold maintenance, or a related manufacturing maintenance function
Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot mechanical tooling issues
Ability to safely disassemble, inspect, service, and reassemble injection molding tooling
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, tooling drawings, and technical documentation
Experience using precision measuring equipment and standard tooling maintenance equipment
Experience maintaining injection molds in a high-volume manufacturing environment
Experience working with hot runner systems and associated components
Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Experience supporting continuous improvement, preventive maintenance, or tooling reliability programs
Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Working knowledge of injection mold construction and mold components
Ability to identify abnormal tooling wear and potential failure conditions
Ability to effectively manage multiple maintenance priorities
Good organizational skills and ability to maintain tooling and spare parts inventories
Must be willing and able to abide by all safety policies
Must be able to work in a non-climate controlled plant environment
Ability to work overtime as needed, including possible weekends and holidays
