Job Summary
The gate guard will control the proper entry and departure of containers and trailers on the grounds and buildings to help prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. This role interacts with drivers, verifies inbound and outbound shipments, and maintains accurate yard and office records.
Pay
$17.14 per hour
Shift
1st shift: Wed-Sat 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. & Thur-Sat 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Duties
- Control proper entry and departures at facility gates
- Greet all traffic arriving at facility gates
- Manage inbound and outbound trailer movement to and from the lot
- Coordinate special needs for drivers with the site supervisor
- Interact with drivers entering and leaving the facility and ensure required check-in and check-out procedures are completed
- Collect BOLs from inbound drivers and log inbound activity in the office log
- Retrieve outbound load packets and record them into the office log
- File paperwork to ensure accessibility for outbound drivers
- Assign drop and pickup locations
- Verify inbound shipments by type and assign locations, live unloading, drop locations, and door assignments
- Record applicable inbound data in the system
- Verify outbound shipments with drivers exiting the facility by matching paperwork to the driver, tractor, trailer number, and seal to the proper destination
- Seal trailers with the seal that matches the outbound packet and trailer
- Update the system for all inbound and outbound activity
- Maintain manual daily records of inbound and outbound tractors, trailers, pickups, and deliveries for backup during system failure
- Record and maintain a daily physical yard check of all trailers stored at customer drop lot locations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Good data entry skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work with little to no supervision
- Basic PC skills including emails and spreadsheets
- Ability to work in all weather elements
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, or lift items weighing up to 15 pounds
